How much is that doggy in the window?

I’ve been thinking alot about puppies. I see people out walking their dogs and I long for one of my own. Growing up, we always had a dog. First it was Badger. He was just a mutt but he kept us company and I felt safe with him when I was little. Then along came Lucky, the Jack Russell cross. She was such a busy dog, always something going on with her. She was alot of fun. Then when I was with the X, we had Kelsey, a black lab. Despite my feelings for Kelsey(she was and still is a big pain, will only listen to the X) it was nice to have her around.

Now, being that we are in a home that we cannot have a dog, I sure notice how much I miss having one. They are always there to welcome you home. Give them some love (and a little food) and they are your best friend forever. My friend Chelle came over on Friday with her new puppy ( a Boston Terrier, “Tank”) and again I felt like we are missing out. Not just me and Chris, but the kids too. Big D was so excited to see this puppy and pet it and chase it. Ms. A gets to see Kelsey and the new puppy Ophelia at G&G’s in Mississauga, and she feels the same way when she comes home…I hear all the time…..when can we get a dog, mom?

Chris and I really want to get a dog. And we’ve been thinking about what kind of dog would be right for our family. We have decided that if and when we are able to get a dog, we are going to get a bulldog. They have just the right amount of energy (which means they don’t want to go for a long walk 4 times a day…..they are ok with one short walk, lol), they don’t have long hair/fur for me to have to sweep and vaccuum up, they snore (but really, who in this house doesn’t?…besides me of course),  they can’t jump up on beds and couches, and they usually have a sweet, gentle personality. Despite a hefty price tag, a bulldog is what we are going to look for. This whole dog dream is probably going to take a while to come true, but at least it’s something to look forward to. So, for now, I’ll have to get my puppy/dog fix through friends and neighbours.

Bulldogs, while kind of ugly, seem to be good pets. At least everyone I’ve known who’s had one has really enjoyed it.

That said, I am NOT a dog person. I like puppies when they’re cute and adorable, but once they become dogs, I’m not so interested. This is why we’ll never, ever own one. I think we’ll stick to cats.
